I am a church boy
Let's get something out of the way first, I embody every stereotype church boys are associated with, everyone you can think of.
I'd rather you see me as one of them than being the different one.
I don't really see the point of being labelled the different one amongst my kin, my idea is "you don't behave like your people is not a compliment", it's one of those insults in the guise of praise.
For those who revel in being separated from the pack, I do not envy them, I think it's a ploy to get them isolated and devoured. There is nothing special about being praised by outsiders by how different you are from your group and this is not just a view I hold about Christianity alone, it applies everywhere. If someone will bash "your people", they should not be comfortable doing it in front of you, worse, they shouldn't be able to buy your silence with a backhanded compliment.
I was born in church, I grew up in church, the only consistent thing in my life is church. I enjoy going to church, I enjoy serving in church, I enjoy the worship sessions, I enjoy praising God for who He is, not just what He has done for me. Think Nathaniel Bassey's "wonderful wonder" and you have an idea what I'm talking about. "Awesome Majesty" by Korede and LoveWorld singers, "No End" by Eli-J and LoveWorld singers, is how most worship songs should sound like. Not waiting for God to "do something" but praising Him for what He has already done!
I enjoy the atmosphere unique to a church environment; the holiness, the wisdom displayed. I enjoy listening to a good sermon and the opportunities I have had, I enjoy delivering one too.
I enjoy listening to people who are absolutely sure and convinced on what they're talking about. I do not subscribe to the concept of "fake it till you make it", I'd rather listen to someone talk about the field they're well read in and topics they're experts on than listen to people who are trying to "aspire to Maguire" their way through life.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (for the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1 John 1:1-2 KJV
See how confident the Apostle John was in the scripture above? That is how I think everyone should talk and they can keep learning and asking questions till they get there. I love a good sermon that draw from the word of God and littered with practical examples of people who have put the word to work and achieved results. True success can be taught and replicated, I love a "Hebrews 11" type sermon.
I have seen miracles. I have seen the seeming impossible come to light. I have seen the power of God expressed through prayers and working of the word. I have prayed and received answers. I know the voice of God and I have been led and instructed. Like almost all church boys you know, unfortunately, I have been disobedient a few times and like a spoilt son of a loving father, I always run back to His arms.
I have spoken with people who say there is no GOD, I have tried to understand their perspective to life and I try not to make light of their story. Some, I sympathize with- those who question the existence of God based off their experience. Those who feel neglected and wonder why a loving father would leave them to suffer so much cruelty but a lot of the world's problems are just a result of man's inhumanity to his brethren.
There are also those who were taught wrong, those who grew up with families or instructors who never lived by the ideals they preached and so they questioned the authenticity of a God who would not call His stewards to order. Your feelings are valid but, the beef is not with the existence of God but His modus operandi.
"I would have done it differently" is not the same as He doesn't exist.
I love being a church boy.
I have always been.
I will always be.
Come to church with me!
Sir good morning to you, I have made out time out of my schedule to always come over here and get inspired by your words and teachings. And I am blessed beyond expectations. Thanks so much sir
