Nigeria needs a lot of new schools..... and Prison.
I have decided to take this L and move on quietly from election matters. I have absolutely no faith in the judiciary and here's why; the geeks are weak. Do you remember back in school, the kids who came first in class and aced all the tests are usually weak and have no (forgive my expression) balls? And the muscular ones who could take risks and hold their own in a fight usually don't get more than 2/10? Exactly. Well, guess what? The smart boys and girls became lawyers and judges, they still have no balls and will not take on the system. They're grown now and have children of their own but mostly still weak.
I refuse to congratulate Bola Ahmed Tinubu on His sham victory, funny thing is, he may have won if the process was flawless but the typical Nigerian politician is not used to decency, that is why Ike Ekweremadu is languishing in a UK jail. They could have gone the decent way and followed the noble path but a Nigerian politician will jump a queue even if there was only two people on it.
Barring any unforeseen circumstance, Tinubu will be sworn in on May 29th and I'm here, as a patriotic citizen, to offer kind advise. Mr. Soon to be president, build more schools and prisons! Hear me out...
The recent election brought out the best and worst from Nigerians, a lot of first time voters and concerned citizens trooped out enmasse to register to vote but unfortunately, they sound so ill-informed, I almost threw up on more than one occasion. A full grown man asked me "what is the difference between house of assembly and house of representatives?" and I didn't judge him at first, I did my best to explain to him the difference between state and federal lawmakers but his follow up question almost brought out the Oluomo in me, he asked "what exactly do members of the state house of assembly do?" I almost threw a punch. The man holds multiple degrees, by the way which got me thinking, perhaps, instead of making Biology a compulsory subject across schools, we should consider civic education and for the love of God, enroll everyone over 15 years old who can't name their senator.
Too many Nigerians know absolutely nothing about how their country work, it's embarrassing. Have you been following the "25% in FCT debate?" Ask your boss what he thinks, you may be on the way to HR asking for an increase in pay after the conversation, if you're still sane.
Anyone remember when the crowned prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman, rounded up His cousins and put them in a hotel-jail in Riyadh? I'm afraid we might need something similar. No, I'm not a fan of MBS or authoritarian rule but here me out, tell me you can't name 10 people who should be cooling off in jail right now. Go on.
I'll start with the serial defectors and political noise makers. Desperate polluters who seek to be relevant by all means and will lick the ass of the devil if it will get them 2 minutes of fame. You know who I'm talking about. The current state of our prisons are nothing to write home about and while we may not be able to afford a Ritz Carlton like the Saudis, a beautiful mini flat somewhere in Jigawa state will suffice. Maybe we will finally get some news about that state. Seriously, what happens in Jigawa?
A Nigeria of our dreams is possible. A new Nigeria we can all be proud to call home but to get there, we must educate our citizens, equip ourselves with the right tools to compete and succeed in the modern world and build modern prisons for those who insist on pressing our necks.
