Post Election Verdict

The presidential and national assembly elections have come and gone, a winner has been declared, emotions are running high on both sides of the extreme and there's a lot of tension in the air.
The statement above would've been true, irrespective of who INEC declare winner, except, of course, Omoyele Sowore, we would've all bursted out laughing. Even the SUG president would have been shocked.

Seriously though, we have a country to develop and while OBIDIENTS and the ATIKULATED movement may be feeling slighted and legitimately so, there are bigger, more important fishes to fry.
First, let's be clear, the election will not be cancelled, especially not by presidential fiat. Can we, please, stop romancing dictatorship just because it seem to please our sentiment? Does anyone really want to live in a country where Muhammadu Buhari can unilaterally cancel an election? Careful what you wish for.
Secondly, we cannot resort to violence and intimidation at this time, there are legitimate ways to make your voices heard, exhaust those means first.

Here's my suggestion to Mr. Peter Obi and the labour party supporters; first, you fought a good fight. No one gave you a chance from day 1, I see PDP trying to play nice now but they once swore you wouldn't get 5 percent of the votes but you took every stone that was hurled at you and made bricks out of them building the most formidable third force arguably in Nigeria's democratic history. As far as I know, this is the first, grassroots supported and funded political party we ever had to gain national prominence and the only way to go from here is up! Please, gather all your evidence, get good attorneys and head to court, you may not have won the popular vote but you need to stay engaged and galvanize support and enthusiasm around your party and agenda and keep the young people of Nigeria engaged in national political discourse. This election has proven once again, the one thing every corrupt system fear is unity in numbers.
Secondly, the party needs a structured agenda and manifesto, a strong and diverse leadership and presence in every ward of every local government in the country. The people are willing, they're available, give directions and they will follow. The party should also carefully consider setting a minimum standard and a common idea around which their candidates, going forward, must adhere. "consumption to production" is a great start. Build that into a workable document. A new Nigeria is still possible, right? One step at a time.
Don't forget the state level elections are just as important, that "structure" they talk about? It starts on March 11th.
Finally, don't become the monster you fight.

To the PDP, you brought this on yourself.
Grow up.

Finally, to the APC and president elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sir, you are going to be the Donald Trump of Nigeria. More people voted for the opposition parties than for you, you won less than 10% of registered voters and the angst and agony ordinary people have felt over the past 8 years is no ordinary social media noise. I hope you understand the gravity of the position you're about to enter, I hope you mean every word you said in your victory speech and I sincerely hope to see what your supporters see in you over the course of your presidency. Congratulations.
