Happy Father's Day!


Happy father's day to all intentional fathers. Those who mapped out their lives and prepared consciously to become fathers. Men who play by the rules and endeavor to keep their children and entire family on the straight and narrow. Fathers who are passionate, filled with empathy, intelligent and all round great examples for generations to come. Your achievements and strides may not always grab the headlines but modern civilization will go extinct without your vital contributions.

Happy father's day to all accidental fathers. Dads who didn't necessarily have everything figured out and on most days, still don't but continue to show up. Fathers who stepped up and continue to show up. Fathers who are not allowed to be overly emotional and who the world will not be kind to if they ever complained. Fathers who can't show up the way they would have wanted and sometimes feel trapped in a web of their own doing.


Happy father's day to all assumed fathers. Those who took up the role of fathers voluntarily or had the position thrown on them by situations beyond their control.

Happy father's day, in advance, to all aspiring fathers. Those who feel ready and able to take up the responsibility of fatherhood.

I spend the vast majority of my time alone so I have a lot of thoughts. Many times, I wonder if people unborn have access to those of us down here and what their thoughts are. Imagine walking into a supermarket, desperate for milk and having only one store to pick from and as you scan through the aisle, you discover there are only 3 cans left, first one had expired 2 years ago, the other expired 6 months ago and the last just expired about a month ago, what do you do? Most rational people would choose the one that expired about a month ago and then try all sort of tricks to lessen the eventual damage and effect.  The scenario above is where most Nigerian voters find themselves on election day, when they pick the ballot to cast their vote. You may be wondering where I got the title from, well, it was inspired by American politics. When Donald J. Trump unexpectedly won the November 2016 presidential election in that country, many people who were taken unaware started traveling round the country to find out what made so many of their fellow country men and women fall for such a shallow con man and they found a bunch of voters who voted for Barack Obama 8 years earlier but switched parties and ideologies and voted for Trump. They were called the "Obama - Trump voters". Many of them sounded noble and like they genuinely loved their country but when you dig in to it and find out about the character of the two men they voted for, those voters begin to sound more like threats rather than patriots.
